Ventusproxy Embeds Azul Zing to Enhance Performance For Mission-Critical Webservers

News highlights:
• New production deployment demonstrates that Zing reduces maximum application-level pauses from several seconds to under 10 milliseconds
• Zing improves operational efficiency by increasing transactional throughput and providing better runtime diagnostics
• Ventusproxy with Zing improves web user experience by caching more data via Zing’s support for Java heaps up to 1 TB with pauseless operation

SUNNYVALE, CALIFORNIA and LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — 09/22/15 — Azul Systems (Azul), the award-winning leader in Java runtime solutions, today announced that ventusproxy®, a web services platform provider, is embedding Zing®, Azul’s high scale Java Virtual Machine (JVM), into its web services architecture. Barcelo Hotels, a ventusproxy customer in the travel sector, has recently deployed the integrated solution and subsequently reduced response times by 1.5 seconds, improved cache hit rates by 160% and slashed web service errors (online requests that fail to process due to IT overload and delayed response times) by 400% – resulting in increased revenues without adding infrastructure.

Ventusproxy provides an advanced web services query cache platform that enables customers to process high volumes of requests and helps manage the unpredictable nature of reservation systems and their related IT costs – ultimately providing greater visibility of online requests that fail to process due to IT shortcomings and unattended requests in real-time. Typically, ventusproxy clients generate 100 million plus transactions a day across large farms of web, XML and database servers. Using ventusproxy technology, these companies are able to increase transactional loads by 300% without adding more hardware. However, on a standard JVM the amount of information that can be stored in a query cache is limited – large memory caches require large Java heaps but consequently result in long Garbage Collection (GC) pauses that stall the application and cause spikes in response time.

Prior to embedding Zing, ventusproxy was using a legacy JVM which was causing, on average, 75 millisecond pauses on the Application Programming Interface (API) every 45 seconds (in some instances pauses could exceed one second). These pauses in application processing compromised system performance and resulted in non-optimal customer experience. Since the deployment of Zing, peak GC and application pauses have not exceeded 10 milliseconds and customers are able to scale up single instances of their application to more than 400 GB of in-memory caching which was impossible with their previous JVM.

Frank Casellas, COO of ventusproxy, said: “We have developed one of the leading web caching platforms for the travel sector, however our infrastructure performance was being undermined by the underlying Java runtime. By using Zing, our customers are now in a position to cache all availability information without timeouts, achieve response time reductions of over 70-80% and gain full system visibility into issues before they can detrimentally impact revenue streams.”

Scott Sellers, CEO and President of Azul Systems, said: “Our customers using Zing in the e-commerce, retail and travel sectors are better able to covert traffic and build loyalty because the user experience is consistent and reliable. Zing empowers customers as it is the only JVM designed to deliver high sustained throughput combined with consistent low latency even with very large in-memory datasets.”

About ventusproxy

ventusproxy® was founded in the 2008 when a group of experts in the touristic sector noticed the need to downgrade the IT costs related to the high growth of the sector. ventusproxy software was originally developed as a web service cache that was intended to manage the overload from the servers of the providers (due to high request volume) through reusing the availability consults repeated within a timeline. Over time, new services have been added (real time monitoring, quota control load balancer, analytics, etc) turning ventusproxy into a real web service management platform. Today, customers across Europe are using our software and we are currently processing over 1 billion weekly transactions.
