Mountain View, Calif. – October 25, 2006 – Azul Systems, the award-winning leader of enterprise server appliances that deliver compute and memory resources as a shared network service, today announced that Gil Tene, vice president, CTO and co-founder of Azul, has been named among the top 50 most influential individuals in technology in Silicon.com’s seventh annual Agenda Setters. The entire report can be view at https://www.silicon.com/research/specialreports/as2006/ .
Tene co-founded Azul in 2002 following a stint as director of technology at Nortel Networks and was included in the Top 50 for being at the heart of a revolution in processing technology. In coming to the their decision, the judges noted, “Tene oversees thedevelopment of technology that eschews the need for quibbling about operating systems and applications by running Java(TM) functions directly on the silicon chip…while others argue over whether two-core or four-core is better, Azul has developed 24-core processors which feature built-in virtualization plus lower acquisition and running costs than comparable technology.”
“The Java platform is the future of application development; it became clear that commodity servers are not designed to run Java and could prevent Java-based applications from scaling to handle massive transaction volumes,” said Tene. “I am deeply honored that Silicon.com has recognized the importance of the Azul multicore technology in ushering in a new era of processing in which our virtualization capabilities will create unlimited pools of shared processing power and memory.”
