Azul Compute Appliance Certified for Apache Geronimo Open Source J2EE Application Server

Mountain View , Calif. – October. 24, 2006 – Azul Systems, the award-winning leader of enterprise server appliances that deliver compute and memory resources as a shared network service, today announced that The Apache Software Foundation’s Geronimo Project has certified the Azul Virtual Machine and the Azul Compute Appliance for the Apache Geronimo open source J2EE™ application server. A testament to the company’s innovation and customer interest, Azul has gained Apache Geronimo certification for the J2EE platform. Based on Sun’s J2EE TCK test suite, the certification means that organizations using Apache Geronimo can safely migrate their J2EE-based applications to the Azul Compute Appliance with virtually unlimited compute and memory resources, enabling organizations to scale effortlessly and sustain service levels for their crucial transaction-intensive applications, even in the face of unpredictable demand.

“We are committed to ensuring that a growing number of open source developers have access to certified solutions that help confidently meet a broad array of industry challenges,” said Jeff Genender of the Apache Geronimo Project Management Committee. “The Azul Compute Appliance offers the community a way to take the Geronimo application server into data centers that run large-scale, transaction-intensive systems.”

Service-oriented architectures, open-source software, and high-end extreme transaction processing are just a few of the drivers that are changing the needs of underlying business application architectures. Today’s business critical applications present scalability and response time challenges that often lead to low asset utilization and ever-growing IT administration and maintenance costs. This infrastructure escalation is eating away at budgets that are better spent on deploying new services and improving the business top line growth. The combined power of Azul Compute Appliances working with Apache Geronimo application server brings the necessary scalability and consistent application response time to meet those challenges.

“Certification by Apache Software Foundation’s Geronimo Project validates the Azul Compute Appliance as a trusted, standards-based platform and signals to the entire open source community that companies now have access to infrastructure technology that will allow them to massively scale their infrastructure while eliminating garbage collection pauses and delivering predictable response times,” said Shyam Pillalamarri, vice president software engineering at Azul Systems. “Running open source application servers on the Azul Compute Appliance offers organizations the opportunity to rapidly grow their infrastructures while ensuring reliability and while controlling costs.”
