Today we are announcing the general availability of Zulu Mission Control (ZMC) release 7.1.
ZMC is Azul’s build of the open source JDK Mission Control product that is used for profiling and analysis of JVM-based applications.
Zulu Mission Control enables developers and operations teams to gain critical insights into how their applications are performing. When connected to a Java runtime built with open source Flight Recorder technology, ZMC users can monitor live systems or playback recordings of performance data for in-depth analysis.
Zulu Mission Control 7.1 is available as a free download from the Azul Systems website. In addition, Azul supports Zulu Mission Control on its entire suite of Java offerings, spanning Zing, Zulu Enterprise, Zulu Embedded, and Zulu Builds of OpenJDK. Zulu Mission Control is also fully compatible with third-party builds of OpenJDK that incorporate Flight Recorder technology, including properly-licensed Java runtimes from Oracle.
Extending ZMC capabilities in release 7.1
In addition to over 60 enhancements, performance and stability updates, Zulu Mission Control now contains the following new features:
- A new ability to create and analyze dumps of the JVM heap. This makes it easier for developers to analyze memory usage within their application and optimize the memory consumption of their application code.
- New Zing-specific functionality for analyzing live object dependency statistics for Java Flight Recorder. This allows developers and operations teams to analyze and fix memory leaks and other issues of applications running on the Zing JVM. The same capability also can be leveraged for select builds of Oracle Java SE and OpenJDK.
- Enhanced latency analytics powered by the widely-used open source HDRHistogram utility, authored by Azul Systems CTO Gil Tene.
To summarize, with the 7.1 release of ZMC we are delivering upon our commitment to putting powerful performance tools in the hands of developers and operations teams that extend beyond OpenJDK to Zing, our flagship runtime for Java.
Free builds of Zulu Mission Control release 7.1 for Windows, Linux, and macOS supporting Java 8, 11, and 13 can be downloaded from the Zulu Mission Control Download Page. Existing Azul customers have access to ZMC from Azul’s customer portal, and ZMC support is included in all Zing and Zulu subscriptions.
