Azul cloud cost optimization experts researched reasons companies struggle with cloud costs. After careful investigation, they identified six false but widely believed Java cloud cost optimization myths and produced the facts to counter each one. This one is about committed cloud spend.
Myth: I’m running out of ways to draw down my discounted committed cloud spend.
Reality: Use your committed spend with AWS and Google marketplaces to procure a faster Java runtime.
Businesses are continuously seeking ways to optimize their cloud architecture to enhance performance, drive value and reduce costs. When paired with AWS, Azul Platform Prime can help you achieve these goals. By leveraging Prime’s fast compilation and pauseless garbage collection, AWS customers can enhance application performance and improve the end-user experience while also lowering their costs. They can also enjoy easier contracting and transactions and lower prices.
Additional discounts through committed spend thresholds
By buying Azul Java through the AWS and GCP marketplaces, organization enjoy benefits including:
- Ease of transaction using standardize terms
- Customized pricing via Private Offer
- Burning down committed spend
- Consolidating additional spend to help increase future EDP thresholds
Here are four steps organizations can take to benefit from the cloud marketplaces:
- Take advantage of the AWS Enterprise Discount Program
- Consolidate third-party software purchases to increase discounts
- Simplify contracts with standard marketplace agreements
- Purchase on the marketplace through Azul partners
Take advantage of the AWS Enterprise Discount Program
AWS offers discount and incentive programs that organizations can use to reduce their cloud operating costs. Organizations that commit to a predetermined annual AWS spend (typically $1 million or more) are eligible for discounts through the AWS Enterprise Discount Program (EDP).
Reduce committed cloud resources and cloud waste
Running applications on AWS EC2 instances can be costly as your computational needs grow. While the primary benefit of Azul Platform Prime lies in enhancing performance and improving user experience, it also delivers cost efficiencies as a byproduct of its optimized performance:
- Lower CPU utilization: Azul Platform Prime’s Falcon Just-in-Time (JIT) compiler and garbage collection algorithms are highly optimized to reduce CPU cycles required for Java workloads. This reduction in CPU utilization can help you avoid autoscaling, which directly translates into lower EC2 instance costs.
- Enhanced resource efficiency: Prime enables more efficient use of memory and computational resources, allowing you to do more with fewer instances. This optimization helps reduce the overall number of EC2 instances required for your applications.
- Reduced cloud waste: Applications run faster and more efficiently with Prime, allowing you to shrink the number of horizontally scaled instances, leading to substantial cost savings.
Improve your application metrics
Performance is critical to any application, directly impacting user satisfaction and business outcomes. The runtime enhancements that Prime brings to your Java applications lead to improved performance and a better user experience:
- Faster warmup: The ReadyNow feature ensures quicker warmup for your applications. This is particularly beneficial for cloud-based microservices architectures, including Kubernetes environments, where containers are frequently spun up and down to meet customer demand.
- Consistent low latency: The C4 Garbage Collector eliminates stop-the-world pauses and reduces latency, providing a smooth and responsive experience for end users.
- Higher throughput: Optimized performance enables higher transaction rates and better handling of peak loads, ensuring that your applications remain performant even under heavy usage.
Customized pricing
“Private Offers” (POs) are the purchasing mechanism that allows sellers (e.g., Azul) and buyers to negotiate custom purchasing terms (i.e., price, duration, etc) using either i) standard marketplace contract or ii) Azul Software Agreement (ASA)
AEs will provide the necessary deal terms (i.e., product, price & payments, duration, prospect’s AWS account # and payment terms, etc.) for our Deal Desk Team to create a Private Offer via our Cloud Marketplace Management Portals (AWS or GCP)
Once a Private Offer is created, it generates a unique ID and URL (i.e., electronic document) that the AE can email to the prospect for acceptance (Buyers transact by hitting “accept” on the Private Offer)
Simplified contracting
Marketplaces provide order fulfillment services using standard licensing terms (i.e., Standard Marketplace Contracts) via an electronic agreement with automated billing, invoicing, and collections. These make for much easier contracting for customers who want to use Java on AWS or GCP.
Additionally, customers can leverage their Enterprise Discount Program (EDP) to purchase Azul Platform Prime via the AWS Marketplace, making it easier and more cost-effective to integrate Azul’s High-Performance Java Platform into their existing AWS infrastructure.
