Sunnyvale, Calif., January 23, 2012 – Azul Systems, the award-winning leader in Java runtime scalability, announced today that Azul Systems CTO and Co-Founder, Gil Tene, will be hosting a Webcast on “The Java Evolution Mismatch.” The 25-minute webinar will explain how the evolution of Java over the last decade has led to a mismatch between the flexibility and power of Java applications vs. the Java runtime’s inability to consistently and reliably make full use of modern server capabilities.
Webinar Abstract
Java started life as almost a toy platform and quickly grew to become essential enterprise technology worldwide. Evolutions in Java performance and scalability initially went hand-in-hand with improved functionality. However, virtually all subsequent improvements to the Java platform have been in language features and scope, with runtime performance remaining largely unchanged for many years.
One result of this mismatched evolution is that while modern Java apps are powerful and flexible, their performance can be inconsistent. Application instances have a hard time consuming even a small fraction of entry-level servers without incurring unacceptable and detrimental performance effects. Quite simply, servers now readily offer hundreds of GB of memory and lots of cores, but the Java runtime hasn’t kept up.
