Challenge
- The SEEBURGER platform is built on Java, and SEEBURGER’s original Java vendor was Oracle. Then Oracle announced that, starting in 2019, Java SE (Standard Edition) public updates would no longer be available for commercial use without a commercial license. SEEBURGER realized these changes would leave customers vulnerable on an unsupported version or in a situation where they might need to purchase additional licenses from Oracle.
Solution
- SEEBURGER decided to strategically invest in a commercial agreement with Azul Platform Core for a fully maintained Java version to be bundled with SEEBURGER software.
Result
- Customers no longer have to buy the JDK license. Azul ships the updates/fixes regularly every quarter, and makes sure the licensing is up-to-date, so the customer has no problems. As Bernd Eckenfels, Chief Architect for SEEBURGER AG, says: “Great service. Flat rate. Flexible. No reporting. Easily reachable and responsive. That’s Azul.”
