📣 UCISA webinar alert - Legacy Java Support Java is now thirty years old and is still one of the most popular computing platforms in use today. One of the powerful features of Java is that applications can run for many years without needing to upgrade the JDK. However, if you’re still using older JDK you need to ensure that you still have the maximum level of security. Vulnerabilities are still being found in the JDK but where to get updates for these very old versions? In this webinar, we’ll explain how Azul continues to deliver updates. Join this UCISA webinar sponsored by Azul on 10th April to gain a clear picture of your options for delivering the application functionality your users need with the maximum level of both security and stability. 🗓️ Date: 10th April ⏲️ Time: 13:00 - 13:45 💡 Booking: https://lnkd.in/gE-9qbaP #HE #FE #UCISA #IT #digitaltransformation #connect #share #transform

Yesterday evening I spoke at the Alpes JUG in Grenoble, #France. It all started with a nice ride to #Grenoble from #Lyon, you come from a more flat area into the French Alpes which was beautiful. The meetup happened in one of the Salesforce offices in Grenoble and we had a great evening. I've talked about #garbage #collection again and as usual most of the people simply use the default garbage collector in their production environments, which is #G1 at the moment (if you are on #Java #Development #Kit 9 or above). And not setting a specific #garbage #collector in production is in general not a problem, as long as everything works out for you 😁 The typical approach when it comes to problems is..."throw" more #cpu on the problem and if that doesn't work..."throw" more #memory on the problem and hope that it will disappear. Well that works in many cases but sometimes it won't and if that happens...you probably have a garbage collection problem. This session is not a deep dive into garbage collection (and I am not a garbage collection expert) but more a little refreshment for you memories, that should remind you on how garbage collection works. In addition I explained the different garbage collectors that we have in the #OpenJDK project. We as #Java #developers are in the lucky situation that we can choose between different garbage collectors. Meaning to say we can choose the right collector for the job which is great...but you need to know what is available and how it works 😁 To be able to play around with the different garbage collectors in the #JVM, you should first of all know about your application and it's behaviour. This includes taking a look at heap dumps, garbage collection logs, resource monitoring etc. With this information at hand, you can start choosing the right collector and tune it to fit to your application. This time there was finally someone in the audience that works with bigger heaps, because I usually find most of the people these days work with relatively small heaps of about 1-2 GB of RAM. If you use larger heaps, #fully #concurrent collectors as Azul #C4 (#Continuous #Concurrent #Compacting #Collector) come into play because these collectors are capable of handling huge heaps up to #TerraByte size. As mentioned we had a great evening and unfortunately I had to drop out too soon because I needed to ride back to #Lyon to drop my car on time. Big thanks to Emmanuel Gérald for setting up this nice meetup 🙏 😁

Is your company still relying on applet-based Java applications? Modern browsers have discontinued support for applets, leaving enterprises at risk if they run applets with legacy browsers. For OpenJDK users, migrating away from applets can be costly and time-consuming, disrupting critical business processes. Fortunately for businesses wanting to modernize their applet and Java Web Start applications, Azul's open-source solutions can provide a functionally equivalent alternative. We can also provide support for running applets and JWS applications on versions of Java that Oracle no longer supports, like Java 6 and 7. Check out our blog post by Daniel Witkowski on how Azul Platform Core provides a way forward. https://bit.ly/4i1U1FX #Java #JavaApplets #OpenJDK
