📊 Are your retail platforms running on out-of-the-box Java runtimes? Then you know they can’t always deliver the performance you need at scale. If you’re overprovisioning infrastructure and escalating cloud costs to support the Java-based architectures that power your checkout flows and fraud detection tools, you’re not alone. 71% of organizations report paying for more than 20% of unutilized cloud compute — and retailers feel it more than most. Every millisecond impacts revenue, resilience, security, and customer trust. Azul Platform Prime is a high-performance Java platform that helps retailers: ✔️ Reduce cloud instances by up to 50% ✔️ Improve code execution speed and eliminate garbage collection pauses ✔️ Strengthen security and resilience without overprovisioning infrastructure Learn how leading retailers are unlocking Java performance to deliver faster, safer, and more scalable digital experiences: https://bit.ly/44WZY2s #RetailTech #Java #CloudOptimization #DevOps #Ecommerce #FraudDetection #JavaPerformance #AzulPlatformPrime #OpenJDK #FinOps

Rising costs have caused many companies to migrate off Oracle Java, turning to alternative distributions like OpenJDK instead. In our 2025 State of Java Survey & Report, two-thirds of organizations found Oracle's licensing model more expensive than alternatives. Dive deeper into the shift with insights from Azul CEO and co-founder Scott Sellers in IT Brief Asia. Read here: https://bit.ly/4m9z8es #Java #OracleJava #OpenJDK #OpenJDKMigration

“JVMs aren’t just executors — they’re adaptive machines that learn and optimize over time"
📍John Ceccarelli from Azul highlighted a common misconception during Amsterdam Java User Group event: “When people hear Java performance, most of them immediately think of latency.” But as he explained, performance in cloud-native Java applications is a multidimensional challenge — especially in dynamic environments like Kubernetes and serverless platforms. Java performance is not just about how fast a single request is processed. It’s also about: 🔹Startup time 🔹Warm-up phase & JIT compilation 🔹Code optimization under pressure 🔹Garbage collection behavior 🔹CPU/memory efficiency 🔹Even carbon footprint in auto-scaling systems 🔍 Key Concepts: ✅ JIT compilers optimize only what’s hot — but it takes time (and CPU) to get there, which affects early traffic in scale-up scenarios. ✅ AOT Profiling in JDK 25 (and Azul Zing) helps the JVM “remember” past execution patterns, reducing warm-up costs. ✅ GraalVM Native Image compiles everything ahead of time — enabling lightning-fast startup — but sacrifices some runtime flexibility and peak performance. ✅ CRaC (Coordinated Restore at Checkpoint) allows apps to warm up once, take a snapshot, and then start future instances in milliseconds — already optimized and ready for traffic. (Used in AWS Lambda SnapStart.) ✅ GC impact remains one of the biggest causes of latency spikes. Traditional Stop-The-World GC pauses all threads. But with modern collectors like ZGC (JDK 21) and Azul C4, you get concurrent, low-latency memory management even at large heap sizes. JVMs aren't just executors — they’re adaptive machines that learn and optimize over time. Real Java performance means controlling warm-up, memory, and compute — not just milliseconds per request. #Java #JVM #GraalVM #CRaC #ZGC #AOTProfiling #Performance #CloudNative #SpringBoot #Latency #StartupTime #Azul

Just re-watched our latest interview with George Gould from Azul, and one stat stopped me cold: 40% of enterprise Java applications are still locked on-premises. Why? Because traditional cloud migration means code rewrites, developer hunts for legacy apps, and massive risk for mission-critical systems. But here's what caught my attention: Azul's partnership with Payara is flipping this script entirely. George explained how their solution can take a JAR or WAR file and deploy it to Kubernetes in 15 seconds—literally one button, zero code changes. "I jokingly say our JVMs go to 11—it's a turbocharger you can apply," Gould told me. That "turbocharger" (Platform Prime) delivers 20-25% infrastructure cost reductions while actually improving performance. For DevOps teams drowning in YAML configurations and enterprises paralyzed by migration risk, this feels like a genuine breakthrough. The Java ecosystem continues to evolve in fascinating ways. #Java #CloudMigration #DevOps

An evening at Amsterdam Java User Group at the HQ of Miro is like... 🎤👨💻🌱 Sharing, growing, and geeking out together I had the pleasure of presenting JobRunr, a background job processing library built in Java. Why using it? - To offload batch jobs to other (faster) machines (optional, but powerful) - Great Spring integration - It's carbon-aware scheduling 🌱 Run jobs when energy is greener and cheaper! 📑 Check my Github repo for an example and slides https://lnkd.in/ebn3vd9V My other learning highlights of the evening (and thank you for that): 🔹 John Ceccarelli (from Azul) Explored AOT and JIT, complex but fascinating. You can optimize a lot when running your application! 🔹 Sergey Chernov (from Miro) Demonstrated maven-timeline for visualizing Maven builds, super useful! To other developers, check it out: https://lnkd.in/epct_Wf5 🔹 Murat Özkan & Sergey Shisholik (Miro) Shared insights on moduliths, modular monoliths that are easier to maintain. 💡 Their strategy: one Maven module per team (not per class/package) to avoid chaos. Also fun: Miro can be used for presentations too, never seen 😄 🙏 Big thanks to all the speakers, attendees and organizers for the inspiring evening. Let’s keep building and learning together! Thank you for the photo Ellina Shchurovskaya #JobRunr #Java #AOT #JIT #Maven #Modulith
